Dive compass are very important in Scuba Diving, so that you can navigate back to the boat or just to stay orientated underwater. An important piece of diving equipment. Period! Like how you take care of other diving gears, every drop a compass take, will result in it losing the accuracy, and might risk breaking too.
They comes in different tilt compensation that equates to how bulky it will be. Some diving organisations use bungee mount compasses as the bungee will follow the compression of the exposure suit according to depth. It also fits any thickness of drysuit undergarment, and allows the bolt snap of the back up light to secure to the bungee strap when in use.
Dive gauges are made of different type of materials and specifications. An accurate and high quality pressure gauge ensures that the gas reading is correct. 45mm slim gauges are popular with divers using them on deco/stage cylinder, whereas they 52mm glass and brass version are used for back mount diving.
Gauges with rubber or protective boots are a double edge sword. The rubber boot is to protect the SPG, but on the other hand it traps lots of salt water, that leads to corrosion, debris entrapment, that damages the air spool after a while. Which is better?
